Direct Benefit Transfer

Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) is an initiative by the Government of India to ensure the direct transfer of subsidies, grants, and benefits into the bank accounts of beneficiaries, eliminating intermediaries and reducing leakages. Launched in 2013, DBT covers a plethora of schemes across various ministries and departments, ranging from fuel subsidies to scholarships and social welfare programs. The initiative leverages the Aadhaar identity platform for beneficiary verification, ensuring targeted and efficient disbursement of funds. By bypassing traditional bureaucratic channels, DBT not only ensures timely and accurate delivery of benefits but also brings about greater transparency, accountability, and cost savings in the public distribution of funds.
